Stolen property worth Rs 57.55 lakh recovered

The district police have recovered cash, stolen articles and vehicles worth Rs 57.55 lakh in the last five months.

Speaking at a property return parade here recently, Superintendent of Police Kuldip Kumar R Jain said the department had achieved 90% success in recovering stolen articles.

He said of the 116 cases related to murder, dacoity, extortion and other offences, district police had been able to solve 81 cases. The district has recorded nine chain snatching cases in a year and three have been solved till now, he said.

Traffic violations

The traffic police have registered 19,666 cases of traffic violation in the district and have collected a fine of Rs 39.53 lakh. The department had also organised several awareness programmes on traffic rules.

In order to curb drunk-driving, it had been decided to provide breathalyzers to all the traffic police stations. At present, only two such equipment is available for the whole district. Interceptor vehicles would be used to track down traffic violations, the SP added.

He said accidents on NH 209 and 212, which connect Tamil Nadu and Kerala, had been on the rise. However, the numbers had come down this year. Reflectors have been installed at accident zones to prevent mishaps, the SP said.
