The opposition Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said her party was not surprised when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal named National Conference president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah in the list of most corrupt politicians of India.

“Farooq Abdullah has gathered so much of property due to multimillion Cricket scam and he definitely deserves to be in Kejriwal’s list of most corruption politicians of the country,” Mehbooba said while addressing a press conference at her posh Gupkar residence, here.

“If the property of all the businessmen of Jammu and Kashmir is put on one side and assets of Farooq Abdullah’s on other side, I am sure that his (Abdullah’s) property will weigh more,” Mehbooba claimed.

The PDP president also lashed out at Jammu and Kashmir government on creation of new administrative units “without assessing ground reality.”

Threat to peace
She warned it will have violent ramifications which can disturb the peace in Kashmir Valley.

“It is vote bank politics and nothing else. As the elections approach the discomfort of the government became very obvious as it has nothing positive to tell the electorate. The watermarks of this government have been corruption, lawlessness, nepotism and lack of governance,” she alleged.

“Discrimination has always provided the subtext to political discourse in the state. This government has taken the feeling of discrimination to a new and more dangerous level. Not to speak of inter-regional feelings of discrimination, it is now percolated down to the village level,” Mehbooba added. She said while the Bloeria and Ganai committees took years to reach a conclusion about their recommendations, the Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) was carrying a clear political mandate and decided the future administrative set up of the state in days.

Slugfest

“The political slugfest preceding the announcement of new units clearly showed the desperation of the ruling parties to somehow create a new narrative of their political existence. And the state was made to pay the price in the shape of chaos, collision and hostility,” the PDP president said.
