Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya has directed the officials of the ITDP to convene a meeting of elected representatives to provide basic facilities to the Tattekere tribal colony residents in Virajpet.

Speaking during a meeting, Sreevidya said that government facilities should reach the SC/ST facilities at the earliest.

ITDP officer Shivakumar said that 31 families at Tattekere had been provided with title deeds under the Forest Rights Act. The title deeds for 26 families are yet to be handed over, he added.

‘Too cold’

Committee member Palani Prakash said that Tattekere was not conducive for habitation as it is affected by severe cold. There is a need to provide alternative land for the residents, he pointed out.

Another member Muthappa said that several tribal families have lost their households in the rain and they should be rehabilitated.

Civic workers do not have houses. The families should be provided with housing facilities, said Prakash.

Superintendent of Police Suman D Pennekar, Deputy Conservator of Forests Manjunath, and Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Mayadevi Galagali were present at the meeting.
