Rajnath should have proved a friend, snubs Naidu

Last Updated 25 July 2019, 10:55 IST

Venting anger at Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's comment that he is still friends with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu, whose Telugu Desam Party moved a no-trust motion against the Modi government on Friday, rebutted saying the minister should have acted like a true friend by helping the residual state.

Naidu's rebuttal came after he followed the debate on the no-trust motion in Lok Sabha, from his office in Amaravati. “As a union minister, Rajnath should have made specific announcement for the state. Instead of reviewing the assistance given to the state so far, the minister made very general assurances. He seems to have given no thought to what we have been crying for all these days,” Naidu said, adding that TDP will not rest till all the promises are fulfilled.

Tacit understanding

In his speech, Rajnath had said the political relations between BJP and TDP would continue. The Opposition YSRCP was quick to see a tacit understanding between the "old friends" and said both TDP and BJP were trying to save each other’s back. “Rajnath Singh’s observations today in the Lok Sabha are a clear indication that TDP has played this whole drama to help BJP swing back from a bad patch,” Vijay Sai Reddy, YSRCP Rajya Sabha member alleged.
Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan, in a series of tweets, accused both BJP and TDP of wasting four years time. “At every stage TDP colluded with BJP and compromised on getting Special Category Status for AP. What they are doing now is an eye wash and political theatrics for public consumption," he tweeted.
