Samithi demands basic facilities for tribals

Members of Karnataka Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samithi stage a protest in Madikeri on Saturday.

Demanding basic facilities for the tribals, the members of Karnataka Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samithi staged a protest in Madikeri on Saturday.

The protest march was carried out from Sudarshana Circle to the DC's office premises.

The protesters have given an ultimatum of one month to fulfil their demands and warned of staging an indefinite dharna after one month.

Samithi Secretary Y K Ganesh said, "We have been staging protests demanding land and sites for the beneficiaries for the last several years. However, no action has been initiated so far."

Thousands of tribal families are residing in colonies and paisari land. Without a shelter, they have been residing in line houses of coffee estate owners. The tribals have failed to get benefits from the government.
