Dynamos' losing streak continues

Delhi Dynamos’ miserable stretch continued following their 0-2 defeat at the hands of North East United at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday.

With the defeat, Dynamos has remained winless in six matches. North East United on the other hand, kept up their undefeated run in five matches. The win took them to the top of the table with 11 points.

The contest was hurtling towards a goalless draw but Federico Gallego broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute to drown the stadium in the din of screaming fans. Captain Bartholomew Ogbeche (90+3) joined the party during the injury time to double the lead.

Egged by a noisy crowd, it never appeared to be an away game for the North East. North East stayed true to their attacking flavor, making waves of inroads into the Dynamos half. For most of the first half, the visitors dictated the pace of the game, but Dynamos, with the return of defender Marcos Tebar, managed to deny them.

The visitors opened several chances but were guilty of blowing them away, especially the set-pieces that came their way. Redeem Ttlang was a constant threat for Dynamos with his speedy burst. Still, the closest the North East came to scoring was in the 40th minute when Juan Marcia, from the rebound, headed the corner into the ground. Mato Grgic tried to nudge it into the corner but Dynamos goalkeeper Francisco Dorronsoro swiftly staved it away with his left hand. The two teams, thus, separated for the break without opening their account.

On resumption, Dynamos made desperate attempts but were once again found lacking in finish. Their attacking midfielder Lallianzuala Chhangte was surprisingly quiet. North East, relentless in their raids, however, got the reward when Gallego, beating a defender, made an excellent strike to the bottom left corner of the net. Gellego then produced a brilliant one-two act with Ogbeche, who put it beyond Dynamos.
