Karnataka beaten by Kerala in T20

Having posted a competitive 149 for five from their 20 overs on the back of Manish Pandey’s 49 (45b, 4x4) and Robin Uthappa’s rapid 38 (26b, 4x4), Karnataka had every reason to believe they had enough runs on the board to make a match of it.

Instead, the two interruptions left Kerala needing a manageable revised target of 110 in 14 overs, a task they achieved with reasonable ease by reaching 110 for six in 13 overs on the back of an unbeaten 21 (11b, 4x4) by P Prasanth.

Their first defeat in three matches has left Sunil Joshi’s men needing to defeat unbeaten Tamil Nadu on Monday if they entertain hopes of finishing in the top two and earning qualification to the all-India inter-State tournament.

Tamil Nadu were too strong for Hyderabad, pulling off a six-wicket victory in another match interrupted by the weather, while Goa continued their good form with a three-wicket defeat of Andhra in a low-scoring fixture.

Skipper S Badrinath scored an unbeaten 51 to help Tamil Nadu make light of Hyderabad’s modest 104 for seven in 17.4 overs, at which point the rains halted the innings. In the other match, Shagun Kamat’s 37 made sure Goa got past Andhra’s 112 for eight with two deliveries to spare in a match reduced to 16 overs.

Brief scores: Karnataka: 149/5 in 20 overs (Manish Pandey 49, Mayank Agarwal 26, Robin Uthappa 38; P Prashanth 3-20) lt to Kerala (revised target 110 in 14 overs): 110/6 in 13 overs (Amit Verma 2-17).

Hyderabad: 104/7 in 17.4 overs (Akshath Reddy 34; S Mohammad 2-23, C Ganapathy 2-20) lt to Tamil Nadu (revised target 102): 102/4 in 15 overs (Abhinav Mukund 26, S Badrinath 51 n.o.; Kanishk Naidu 2-11, Ashish Reddy 2-19).
