Last Updated 29 October 2017, 20:25 IST

Mysuru will host the inaugural 400M National Championships on July 1, the Athletics Federation of India stated on Sunday.

Dharamshala was to host the meet on October 22 and 23 this year as per the original schedule but lack of interest from the athletes at the end of the season forced the federation to postpone it.

As per the calendar that was approved at AFI's Annual General Body Meeting here on Sunday, Karnataka will also host the second leg of the Indian Grand Prix on July 6. The event has been scheduled at the Vidyanagar Sports School track.

The AFI sources said the event could be shifted to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium if the track is relaid on time. The Kanteerava track is in poor condition and the process to relay it is likely to start in the near future.

The inaugural Javelin Challenge will also be held in September next, in Uttar Pradesh.

The AFI also made it clear that athletes skipping national camps will not be allowed to participate in selection trials for international championships.

The AGM approved the qualifying guidelines for the Commonwealth and Asian Games next year. Also, it suspended the Puducherry, Manipur and Nagaland State association for doing little to promote athletics. Punjab was suspended for three months for not attending the AGM.

Major domestic competitions: National Cross Country (Jan 14, Goa), International Race Walking (Feb 18-19, New Delhi), Indian Grand Prix I (Patiala, Feb 27), Federation Cup (March 5-8, Patiala), Junior Federation Cup (May 5-7, Chennai), 400M Nationals (July 1, Mysuru), Indian Grand Prix 2 (July 6, Vidyanagar), Indian Grand Prix 3 (July 8, Chennai), Inter-State meet (July 15-18, Kolkata), National Javelin challenge (Sept 9-10, UP), Open Nationals (Sep 25-28, Bhubaneswar), Junior Nationals (Nov 2-6, Ranchi).
