Bagalkot student may have committed suicide: MP

 It is now believed that Manjunath Churi, 27, a student of Hamburg University, Germany, hailing from Seemikeri in the taluk has committed suicide. The student had gone missing for the past few days.

P C Gaddigouder, the Lok Sabha member from Bagalkot, told DH a death note was found in his apartment, from where he had gone missing on Monday.

A bicycle and a pair of slippers belonging to Manjunath were found on the bridge across River Elbe. So, it is suspected he jumped into the river. Gaddigouder said he had received communication in this regard from the Ministry of External Affairs. However, SP C B Rishyant said they were yet to get any official information from the MEA.

Rishyant said they had been told by Indian embassy officials in Germany that efforts to trace the student were on and that the police had no knowledge about the later developments.

Manjunath’s uncle Mallikarjun Bommanala said the embassy officials had only told them about bicycle and chappals being found and there was no other information available.
