<p class="rtejustify">As many as 71.93% of the 8.5 lakh students have passed the SSLC exam this year, up from 4.06% compared with 2017. The results were announced on Monday. </p>.<p class="rtejustify">Two students — Yashas M S, from Sadvidya High School, Mysuru, and Sudershan K S, from Holy Child English High School, Bengaluru — have scored a perfect 625 out of 625.</p>.<p class="rtejustify">The overall pass percentage last year had stood at 67.87 while it was 75.11 in 2016 and 81.82 in 2015. </p>.<p class="rtejustify">Girls continued to outperform boys. While 78.01% of the girls passed the exam, just 66.56% of the boys were successful. </p>.<p class="rtejustify">Udupi district topped the results with 88.18% of its students passing the exam, up from 84.23% in 2016-17. Yadgir, in Hyderabad-Karnataka, saw the lowest pass percentage at 35.54. The district slipped from the 16th position last year to the 34th this year. Dr M T Reju, Commissioner for Public Instruction, said they would look into the reasons for the sharp drop in the district’s performance. </p>.<p class="rtejustify">The Madhugiri educational district, on the other hand, has improved its performance drastically, moving to the fifth position with a pass percentage of 85.55, up from the 22nd position in 2016-17.</p>.<p class="rtejustify">The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) had announced grace marks to help students. </p>.<p class="rtejustify">Dr Reju said, “Students whose overall pass percentage was short by five points have been given additional marks.” About 2% of the students benefited from this, he added. </p>
