Cong, BJP are in pact for power: Mayawati

Last Updated 05 May 2018, 20:09 IST

BSP president Mayawati on Saturday accused the BJP and the Congress of having an understanding for power in many states.

She was addressing a convention of the JD (S)-BSP party workers here. “The Congress and the BJP have an understanding in many states for power. However, regional parties haven’t entered into such understanding with the national parties,” she said.

She accused the BJP of committing atrocities against dalits. “Dalits and farmers are in distress in the BJP ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The Central government has not taken steps against those committing atrocities against dalits. The BJP is leading in fuelling communal violence,” she said.

“The BJP is planning to cut down percentage of reservation to dalits, backward classes and minorities. The saffron party leaders are attempting to change the Constitution.
Who are these people to change the Constitution?” she questioned. Mayawati said that the Central government had failed to implement schemes benefiting common man.

“People have been facing problems ever since Modi became the prime minister. Due to demonetisation, there is economic emergency in the country. The prime minister is protecting industrialists like Nirav Modi who cheated banks,” she charged.

She came down heavily on the Congress and said that the Congress party ruled the country for many decades, but did not honour Dr B R Ambedkar with Bharat Ratna Award.

“It is not regional parties, but national parties that are following the caste system,” she said.
