Cong wave in Belgaum

Congress gained upper hand in the elections to the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the district.

Among the 16 ULBs, Congress won majority in four, while its supporters were elected in large numbers in four other civic bodies. The BJP won majority in four, two went to independents and the verdict is fractured one. All the 58 elected to the Belgaum City Corporation were independents.

Congress won majority in the Nippani City Municipal Council. Of the 31 seats, 15 were won by Congress and BJP 6. Others won 10 seats.

Congress supporters won 29 seats in the 31-member Gokak City Municipal Council. BJP supporters won two seats

Congress - 13, BJP - 8; Sankeshwar TMC: Seats - 23, BJP - 22, others - 1; Bailhongal TMC: Seats - 27 Congress - 18, BJP - 8, others - 1; Chikodi TMC: Seats - 23 Independents - 23 (Congress supporters 13, BJP supporters 9, others 1); Athani TMC: Seats - 23 BJP - 10, Congress - 7, JD(S) - 6; Mudalgi TMC: Seats - 23 BJP - 15, Congress - 2, others - 6; Yellamma-Savadatti TMC: Seats - 23, BJP - 14, Congress - 7, others - 1; Hukkeri Town Panchayat (TP): Seats - 19, BJP - 18, others - 1; Khanapur TP: Seats - 16, Independents - 16 (Congress supporters 4, BJP 3, JD(S) 3, BSR 1, pro-Maharashtra 1); Sadalga TP: Seats - 20. Independents - 20 (Congress supporters 16, BJP 3, others 1); Raibagh TP: Seats - 15, BJP - 1, Congress - 1, others - 13; Kudachi TP: Seats - 20, Congress - 11, independents - 9 and Konnur TP: Seats - 17, BJP - 2, independents - 15 (Congress supporters).
