Bahuroopi-2019 in Mysuru from Jan 12

The city-based Rangayana is all set to host ‘Bahuroopi-2019’, a national theatre festival, from January 12 to 18.

The week-long theatre festival will be held on the premises of Rangayana with the theme ‘gender equality’. Theatre activist Prasanna will inaugurate the fest at Vanaranga, on January 12 at 6 pm.

A dozen well-known theatre troupes from across the country, including from Assam, Delhi, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will take part in the festival.

In addition, six theatre troupes from Karnataka will take part.

Speaking to DH, Director of Rangayana-Mysuru, Bhagirathi Bai, said, “This time, Ranganaya will stage the play ‘Hoovugali’ by amateur artistes of the city and directed by Joseph.”

She said, as part of the festival, a seminar on the theme gender equality would be held on January 17 and 18.

A variety of events, such as multilingual plays, symposium, film festival, painting exhibition, poster exhibition, folk performance, handicrafts festival will add colour to the national theatre festival.

Following a demand by the theatre buffs, Rangayana will stage ‘Sri Ramayana Darshanam’, a play based on poet laureate Kuvempu’s work, on four days, during the festival.

As many as 28 national and international art movies will be screened during the festival.

Convener of Bahuroopi-2019 Mahadeva said, “This is a good opportunity for the theatre buffs of the city to watch plays of different genres and regions under a single roof.”

Plays will be staged at Kirurangamandira at 6 pm, Bhoomigeetha 6.30 pm, Vanaranga 7 pm and Kalamandira 8 pm.
