Dearth of funds for border area development in Kolar district

Chairman of Border Area Development Authority, Chandrakant Gurappa Bellad conducted the meeting of officials here on Tuesday.

No funds were released for the development of  villages in the limits of Srinivaspur, Malur, Mulbagal and Bangarpet which are located in the bordering area of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, after 2007-08.

Bellad directed the officials to furnish details about the works undertaken by the zilla panchayat technical department, public education department, forest, minor irrigation, horticulture department in the bordering villages.

The area within a radius of 10 km from the interstate border is deemed as border area. Information about lakes, road, school, anganwadi in these area is necessary. Kolar district has the highest number of borewell in the State. It is utmost important to create awareness on rainwater harvesting among public. Action plan will be set shortly after conducting a meeting of  people’s representatives, he said.

He said that, the district has the border area of 140 km and directed the officials of public works department to provide info on roads in the villages in these area and added that he would pay a visit to these villages after getting the info.

Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director B S Venkatachalapati said that the work of construction of Gadibhavan at a cost of Rs 20 lakh is in progress and will be completed in a span of three months. A proposal for the construction of  Kannada Bhavan and Suvarna Gadibhavan at the district centre is also submitted to finance department.
Zilla Panchayat Executive Engineer, Devraj said that Panchayat Raj Technical Department has given prominence for development of roads in the villages.

Drinking water, toilet, power connection and other basic aminites are provided to the schools in the bordering areas on priority basis through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, informed Prahalad  Gowda, Deputy Director, Public Education Department.

ZP CEO G V Rangarao spoke on the occasion. Additional SP Phanindra Singh, ZP President M Srinivas, Assistant Commissioner Peddappaiah, Tahsildar S N Mangala and district level officers were present.
