When a new bypass road connecting Vijayapur Road, Gadag Road, Bengaluru Road and Karwar Road on the outskirts of Hubballi city is being developed, a plan to expand this road from Vijayapur Road to Dharwad is also taking birth, so that the twin cities can have an almost ring-road like facility.

MLA Jagadish Shettar revealed that a survey is being conducted to expand the new bypass road from Vijayapur Road to Dharwad. The new bypass road being developed now would be ready within eight months, he said.

During the inspection of Kapila Bavi (well) rejuvenation work at Shrinagar on Karwar Road here on Monday, he told media persons that the new bypass road would reduce the traffic congestion inside the City, as vehicle moving from different places to other places need not enter the City and cross through Chennamma Circle.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has advised to reduce the cost of proposed flyovers at Chennamma Circle in Hubballi and Jubilee Circle in Dharwad. A revised plan would be finalised, after holding discussion with the consultancy, and the project cost would be around Rs 700 crore, he said.

Tender process is completed to develop Ankola-Gooty National Highway stretch from Anchatageri to Gadag Road railway bridge in Hubballi, at a cost of Rs 200 crore, and the work to develop this cement concrete (CC) road would begin after issuing the work order to the contractor, he noted.

Well cleaning

Kapila Bavi, a well with more than 200 years of history, was in a pathetic condition, and now, members of Yuva Brigae and other organisations are cleaning it voluntarily, on Sundays, since last three weeks. After inspecting the work, Jagadish Shettar stated that these youth have opened the eyes of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).

The HDMC would also join hands in rejuvenating Kapila Bavi, while lawn and garden would also be developed there. Groundwater in the area would also rise if the water source in the well is revived. Other lakes and old wells in the twin cities should also be rejuvenated, he noted.

Road repairs

Road near the flyover at Unkal is totally damaged, and the BRTS officials would be asked to make that stretch motorable. They would also be instructed to fill the potholes in front of Old Bus Stand, Shettar said.

Several main roads and interior roads are damaged due to continuous rain. HDMC officials should take steps to take up at least temporary patchworks to repair them, till the rain recedes, he added.

HDMC Commissioner C W Shakeel Ahmed, Corporator Laxman Gandgalekar, Subhash Singh Jamadar of Yuva Brigade, and others were present.
