Electoral officials have seized Rs 30 lakh cash, which was being transported in a car without any proper documents, at Madakecheeluru check post near here in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to the poll officials, areca merchant Srinivas was transporting the cash in his car from Honnali of Davangere district towards Shivamogga.
It is said that he could not produce proper documents to substantiate his claim that the money belonged to him.
The Shivamogga Rural police have registered a case.
Check posts have been set up in various parts of the city to check electoral malpractices ahead of by-election to Shimoga Parliamentary seat scheduled for November 3.
