Five killed in two accidents in Belgaum

Five people were killed in two separate accidents in the taluk. Jovana, 20, Shivaranjan Medama, 26 and Devarath, 22, all from Soori village in Dhamteri district of Chhattisgarh died after a lorry with borewell drilling equipment, in which they were travelling, turned turtle on the Naganur-Lakkundi road in the taluk Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred when the lorry was returning after sinking a borewell near Naganur in the taluk.

The deceased were among the workers who were caught under the borewell pipes.

A case has been registered at the Nesargi police station. Five of the workers who have been injured have been admitted to a hospital in Belgaum for treatment.

Motorcyclists die

In the other incident, two men were killed on the spot when the bike in which they were travelling hit a stationary tipper at Kollanatti Cross on the Belgaum-Bagalkot road near Nesargi in the taluk Monday night.

The dead are Arjuna Danappa Naika, 30, a reisdent of Kollanatti in Belgaum taluk and Balappa Eshwarappa Mareppagola, 30, a resident of Hogarti village in the taluk.

A case has been registered with the Nesargi police station.
