Four drug peddlers sentenced to 10-year jail term

The Second Additional District and Sessions judge has sentenced four drug peddlers to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped them with a fine of Rs 4 lakh each.

The convicted are: Aakash Balchandra Desai, Asif Abdulmunaf Buranwale, residents of Shahapur in Belagavi; Mohammadali aliyas Munna Latif Sayeed of R P Nagar in Raigad, Maharashtra and Sajjan Narasimha Hervalkar, a native of Asnoda Bardej in Goa.

During a routine check, the Tilakwadi police stopped a Mercedes Benz car near Goaves Circle. Aakash and Asif tried to escape with
bags.

The police nabbed the duo and recovered 8 kg hashish, a revolver, 10 live bullets, four cell phones and Rs 2.45 lakh cash and a high-end bike from Aakash and Asif.

The police then arrested two others Mohammadali Sayyed and Sajjan Hervalkar from a rented house at Rani Chennamma Nagar, which they used to store and pack the contraband.

During the probe, it was found that the accused were also involved in illegal trade of narcotic substances with foreign countries.

The police had filed 702 page-charge sheet against the four accused.

Judge M H Annayyanavar convicted held the accused guilty under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Public Prosecutor G K Mahurkar represented the state.
