JOIN US'Govt houses for flood-hit'
In Raichur, the chief minister said the government has decided to relocate 219 villages, constantly affected by floods. As many as 75,000 families are living in these villages.
He said shifting the people of these flood-prone villages to a safer place would be the only permanent solution. Efficient officers would be deputed to monitor the rehabilitation work on a war footing basis. The deputed officers will work in coordination with DCs and taluk level officers, he said. Yeddyurappa said he would be visiting affected taluks after October 14 for a week. Each day he would visit two to three taluks. Yeddyurappa said that all his ministerial colleagues will contribute their one month’s salary towards the relief fund.
In Bangalore, while interacting with the public during a phone-in programme of a TV channel, the chief minister said new layouts would be developed to provide houses to the victims, whose dwellings have been razed down to earth.
The residential plot would help the farmers to make use of the additional space for storing their produce and shelter for livestock, he said. One thousand acres was required for building the new layouts. Partially damaged houses will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs 50,000 each.
As many as three lakh houses need to be constructed and the government is banking on contribution to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore from the public for building one lakh dwellings.
Transparency
In a bid to ensure transparency in the utilisation of flood relief funds, details of funds and grants received and its allotment for rehabilitation programmes will be hosted on website www.kar.gov.in; The public would also be nominated on district-level committees to monitor the rehabilitation work.
Low-key celebration
CM Yeddyurappa has decided to cut down expenditure on Rajyotsava celebrations. He has also called upon the people to go in for a low-key Deepavali celebrations in the wake of the floods.
He also said foreign trips planned by him and his cabinet colleagues ahead of the global investors meet, which is scheduled to be held in January next year have been cancelled.
