Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V S Ugrappa told reporters in Bangalore on Tuesday,  the Government had initially announced that the total expenditure (both plan and non-plan) during 2008-09 would be Rs 60,497.19 crore.

However, the estimates were later revised to Rs 54,229.68 crore while the actuals up to March 2009 stood at Rs 51,073.43 crore.

Accusing the Finance Department of being reluctant to part with the figures, Ugrappa said that data was furnished only after he threatened to move a privilege motion against the officials.

The statistics showed that there is a downward revision for major departments including rural development, education and public health. The document also mentions the accounts furnished are ‘preliminary’. He charged that the Government had misled the public by furnishing ‘cooked up’ figures in the Action Taken Report on the budget.
