Heavy rain in Hubballi-Dharwad

 Moderate to heavy rain lashed Hubballi for more than half an hour on Tuesday, bringing relief to people who were reeling under gruelling heat for the last one month.

Rain, accompanied by heavy winds and thunder, began at around 6.15 pm and lasted till 6.50 pm, bringing a sudden dip in the temperature.

For the last one month, Hubballi had not received rain and the temperature kept fluctuating between 39 degrees Celsius and 41 degrees Celsius. Dark clouds hovered over the city in the last few days, but rain was elusive. So far there have been no reports of damage to property or cattle.

More than 18 bikes and a car (the old official car of mayor) were damaged after a huge tree fell on them near mayor’s office. There were reports of two more trees falling in the city.

Power supply was disrupted for more than four hours due to heavy rain.Rain lashed Dharwad city too on Tuesday for more than 30 minutes. The rain accompanied by gusty winds started at around 7 pm. Roads were flooded as rainwater overflowed from choked gutters, affecting movement of vehicles.

Traffic was affected near  Tollnaka and Gandhi Nagar for some time as the roads have been dug up for the BRTS project and the rainwater accumulated in the pits. Many interior roads in the city were waterlogged. However, there were no reports of tree fall or damage to property.

Sandur town in Ballari district received rain with thunderstorm for some time on Tuesday afternoon. The showers brought mercury down.

Rain continued to pound Kodagu district on Tuesday with Madikeri, Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, Napoklu, Virajpet and Gonikoppa receiving showers.  Frequent rain in the last one week has been helpful in rejuvenating water sources in the district. Moderate to heavy rain lashed several parts of Shivamogga district.

Shivamogga, Bhadravathi and Hosanagar received a good spell of rain in the evening. The rain that started around 7 pm continued for nearly 20 minutes. Parts of Sagar, Thirthahalli and Shikaripur also received moderate rain.
It rained in parts of Dakshina Kannada district as well. Vittal, Thokkuttu and Mangaluru received good rain after 9 pm.
