ICFRE teams visit mines in Bellary

Three teams from the Indian Council of Forest Research and Education (ICFRE) have been visiting mines in the district to chalk out reclamation and rehabilitation plans, on the direction of the Supreme Court.

While a six-member team visited Kamathur mines on Wednesday, two more teams took stock of environmental degradation at the mining areas on Devagiri, Kamathur, Subbarayanahali and other villages on Friday.

The teams will also look for encroachment of forest areas for mining operations, destruction of border pillars at the mining sites.

They are expected to be in the district till July 14 and may inspect mines in Hospet taluk also.
