The B S Yediyurappa administration has roped in Sandalwood actor Darshan as the ambassador of the government’s Agriculture Department.

Darshan, known as ‘Challenging Star’ in the filmdom, has agreed to take up the role without any remuneration, according to a government order issued by the Agriculture Department.

The actor will promote programmes and schemes of the Agriculture Department and “instil hope among farmers”, the government order stated.

“Darshan is an agriculturist himself. He held talks with the minister to take this forward,” Agriculture Minister B C Patil said in a statement. Patil, a former policeman, was an actor himself.

This is not the first time a celebrity has been roped in by the state government. In 2014, actors Puneeth Rajkumar and Radhika Pandit came onboard as the ambassadors for the Right to Education (RTE). Recently, Puneeth was also named as the ‘development ambassador’ for the backward Chamarajanagar district.
