Declare Kodagu flood-prone district, urges BJP

BJP district committee has urged the state government to declare the district as a flood-prone district and release a special package of Rs 500 crore.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, BJP district spokesperson Subrahmanya Upadhyaya said that the district had to incur huge losses due to heavy rains. The losses are to the extent of crores of rupees. The estimated loss is more than Rs 200 crore, though the district administration has not provided proper information on the losses.

He said that Kodagu should be considered as a flood-prone district and urged the chief minister to take relief measures soon, along with releasing a special compensation package.

Subrahmanya further said that most of the coffee plantations and paddy fields in the district have been ruined. Electric poles and transformers have been damaged. Roads in many rural areas have been damaged beyond repair. Many houses have collapsed.

Madikeri taluk BJP President Taluru Kishore Kumar said that the Talacauvery-Bhagamandala road has worn out.
