Flood victims to get houses by June-end: Pratap Simha

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 19:16 IST

MP Pratap Simha said the construction of houses for flood victims in Kodagu will be completed by June-end.

He said donors have been supplying grains to the flood and landslide victims in the district. Several individuals have come forward to construct houses as well, he told media persons after holding talks with Titos True Indian T-Shirt owner Sandesh Martin, who has come forward to construct 100 houses for the victims.

The MP said Infosys Foundation has announced Rs 25 crore aid for the construction of houses. "I will discuss the issue of Titos True Indian coming forward to construct 100 houses for the victims with Deputy Commissioner Sreevidya," he added.

Simha said seven acres of land is required for the construction of 100 houses. The district administration has already identified 100 acres for the rehabilitation of the victims. The layout, to be built by the Titos, will have two-bedroom houses, a hospital, a medical shop and a park, he said.

He charged that the state government has not accelerated the work on rehabilitation.

A protest will be staged on November 30 to demand the constitution of an authority to rebuild Kodagu, he said.

The Centre has released Rs 546.21 crore for rain relief work and Kodagu has received a major share in this, he added.

Sandesh Martin said that the unit cost of each house will be Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. All the houses will be full-fledged and the construction work will be completed by June-end. The work will commence once the district administration identifies and hands over the land, he noted.
