Mandya school students display interesting models at science expo

The students turned budding scientists and displayed their scientific knowledge through their models at the district-level science expo in the city on Monday.

The 'pickpocket' model of the students of Lakshmipura Higher Primary School, KR Nagar taluk, attracted a large number of people. The model, a jeans pant, adopted with sensors, made noise once a person touches the pocket. The students explained that the sensor adopted trousers would make a sound if the pickpockets try to rob mobile phones or wallets.

The 'wire katchi sangeetha keli' (bite the wire and hear music) model of Chinmaya Vidyalaya of Mandya too attracted many. The people could hear music by biting the wire with ears closed. The model won the appreciation of the visitors.

Environment-friendly refrigerator, solar-based railway station, self-operated railway gate, hanging bridge, protection at ATM, solar system, global warming, self-operated borewell to save water and other models were on display at S B Samudaya Bhavan in the city, where the science expo held.

The students of more than 350 schools from Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts participated in the expo.

A student from Government High School, Nagamangala taluk, had created a model using steel plates (ordinary plates used to have food) to prevent crop damage. The plates make a continuous sound, creating fear and drives away birds and small animals.

A student of St Johns High School, Mandya, explained about the mobile app he has programmed to trace missing children. The students were accompanied by the teachers of their respective schools.

Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Marithibbegowda inaugurated the expo. CMC president Hosahalli Boregowda was present.
