Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, they said after the term of ZP former President Deerghakeshi Shivanna ended, S N Rajarao and V M Vijaya who took charge as the Presidents, conducted only two general meetings so far. Now in the name of code of conduct, they have postponed the meeting which was scheduled to be held on April 19. The ZP meetings did not discuss development works. Instead the ZP president having unable to answer on the failure of the administration, had postponed the meeting.”

“In spite of submitting Rs 12 crore action plan for the drinking water projects for the year 2009-10, BJP MLAs and Zilla Panchayat could not get it released for the district so far.”
They said “the rules provides opportunity to hold the meeting once in 30 to 60 days.

However, even after 80 to 90 days, the ZP President Vijay has been violating the rules by not conducting the meetings. Postponing the meeting in the name of Kodagu’s development is also not a good sign. In case, if the ZP President can not carry out the administration, he has to tender resignation citing moral responsibility,” they urged.

They said “Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah should tender resignation for issuing statements that inspite of not attending the ZP meeting, in the interest of development, I have signed the attendance book. He should tender resignation to maintain the dignity of the post he is holding.”

Rural Development and Panchayatraj Minister Jagadeesh Shettar had stated that the Centre had released Rs 1,400 crore for drinking water projects. However, all the Assembly constituencies were given only Rs 10 lakh to undertake drinking water projects.”
