RGUHS proposes to hike number of PG seats in dental science

He was delivering graduation day address at 22nd graduation day ceremony of JSS Dental College and Hospital in the city.

The V-C said that the PG seats at present are numbered at 2,175 when compared to under-graduate seats recorded at 22,300.

Saying that Karnataka State is the model in the realm, he said of the total 286 dental colleges across the nation, the State alone has 43 such institutes. Continuing he said that the young doctors have a huge responsibility to shoulder with India set to emerge super power in the health scenario.

The onus of producing healthy human resource is on the doctors again, for which they  have to launch a struggle against the growing number of diseases.

He also disclosed that the varsity that had withdrawn housemanship course for a few subjects earlier has decided to re-introduce it. In his call to the graduates, the V-C said ‘you are the ambassadors of both JSS University and RGUHS’.

Earlier, he administered customary oath to the graduates to serve the society unbiased.
College principal Dr B Nandalal was happy to inform that the college stands 13th among the colleges in the State in the area of research.

Dr Prajna Banan was feted for securing first place among the overall toppers in BDS (UG) in July 2010 RGUHS exams, followed by Dr Rini Sharma and Dr Noor Fathima in second and third place respectively. Among the university rank holders and college level toppers in MDS(PG) May 2011 RGUHS exams, Dr Sushna S (pedodontics and preventive dentistry) who has secured first rank both in the varsity level and college was feted. Dr Divyashree P (Periodontics) who shares third place in the college along with a fellow student was also honoured.

A total of 77 graduates (BDS) and 26 post-graduates (MDS) were presented degrees amid the huge gathering of relatives and well-wishers.

JSS University pro-chancellor B N Betkerur, V-C Dr B Suresh, director (academics) Dr B A Kushalappa were present.
