Udupi sets Rs 5 crore target for flood victims

The meet under the leadership of DC Hemalatha set a target of collecting as many as Rs 5 crore from the district as donation to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. The meet attended by the heads all the associations and organisations in the district worked out a plan to adopt a village in Gadag or Bagalkot district and restore the life of the evacuees.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Hemalatha said the State has witnessed the tragedy ransacking the human life and belongings. The catastrophe has dragged the State’s development process back to 20 years. Udupi is one of the less affected districts. The North Karnataka that has been massively damaged needs support for rehabilitation works. Counters have been set up in the DC office to take the donations contributed individually or through associations, she said.  Retorting to the idea of adopting a village, she said the request will be sent to the government and it is possible only after the permission by the government. Clothing and blankets will be sent to the affected people.

The collected funds and materials should be sent to the victims by October 15. Cheques and DDs are preferred. Transparency should be there in the collections, People should come forward to contribute generously, she appealed. A representative from MAHE said that the foundation has asked the employees to donate a day’s salary. Matching donation will be added by the Manipal Group of Institutions before donating it to the fund, he said.

Annegudde Temple Administration and Mandarthi Temple administration donated Rs 2 lakh each, Kamalasheele Temple Administration donated Rs 1 lakh while Neelavara temple donated sarees worth Rs 50,000 on the occasion.

District Lead Bank Manager Sathyanarayana said all the 259 branches of the lead banks are directed to collect fund besides cloths and other necessary materials, he said.
The representatives of the Wine Merchants Association, Government Employees Union, TEBMA, Nagarjuna Power project, Suzlon, Cashew Producers Association, Cinema Theater Owners Association and Excise Department were among others who assured all possible help.
