The movement of vehicles has been prohibited on Shiradi Ghat following landslides at several locations. The Sampaje Ghat, too, is not open for vehicular movement, said Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

Sampaje Ghat is usually used as an alternative route to reach Mangaluru from Bengaluru via Mysuru and Madikeri. While Sampaje Ghat has been blocked for the third consecutive day, Shiradi Ghat is blocked for the second day.

All traffic between Mangaluru and Bengaluru is now being diverted to the Charmadi Ghat. The KSRTC, however, cannot operate all its premiere class buses on Charmadi Ghat.

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority has forecast heavy rainfall in Dakshina Kannada district for the next 24 hours. People living in low-lying areas along the banks of the Nethravathi and Kumaradhara have been advised to be cautious and shift to the safer areas.
