34 gold medals to be given during MU convocation

The 37th convocation of Mangalore University (MU) will be held on April 12 at 3 pm. M S University of Baroda former vice chancellor Padma Ramachandran will deliver the convocation address, according to a press release issued by MU Registrar Prof A M Khan.

Khan stated that Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will preside and present the degrees to the candidates. During the convocation, Mangalore University will award 149 Doctor of Philosophy degrees (Arts- 27, Science- 99, Commerce- 14 and Education- 9) and one DSc degree.

As many as 34 gold medals and 98 cash prizes will be given in addition to 179 ranks. Among the 179 ranks, 70 students have secured first rank in various courses. Of the 70 students, 51 are from Postgraduate (PG) and 19 from Undergraduate (UG) courses.

Stream-wise break up of first rank holders are 17 from Arts, 36 from Science and Technology, 10 from Commerce, 4 from Education and 3 from PG Diploma.

The press release stated that a total of 42,742 candidates appeared for the examinations and 29,100 (68.11%) had passed.

In PG courses, a total of 7,052 candidates had appeared and 6,642 (94.10%) have passed.

In UG courses, a total of 35,511 students had appeared and 22,295 (62.78%) have passed and in PG diploma course, a total of 29 candidates had appeared and 23 (79.31%) of them have passed, the press release stated.

Out of 6,642 PG students who have passed, 1,868 (28.12%) are boys while 4,774 (71.88%) are girls. Similarly, at the UG level, out of 22,295 candidates who have passed, 7768 (34.84%) are boys and the remaining 14,527 (65.16 %) are girls.

In PG diploma examinations, out of 23 students who have passed, 9 are boys.

A far as total performance in the examinations is concerned, out of 28,960 (except Phd, and DSc) candidates who passed, 9,743 (33.64%) have secured distinction, 11,975 (41.35%) first class, 6167 (21.30%) second class and the remaining 1,075 (3.71%) have obtained pass class.

Out of 29,110 candidates who have passed, 4,777 (DSc-1, PhD-138 PG- 1189, UG-3449) will receive their degrees in person.
