Amateur wrestling competition on Jan 21

The Dakshina Kannada District Amateur Wrestling Association will organise a district-level amateur wrestling competition for men and women at Lokaiah Shetty Smaraka Rangamandira in Suratkal on January 21.

The event, is being organised in association with Karnataka Seva Vrinda, Suratkal to commemorate the 16th death anniversary of freedom fighter, former MLA and wrestler M Lokaiah Shetty.

Association honorary president M Sureshchandra Shetty told reporters on Tuesday that the competition will be inaugurated by Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharat Shetty at 10 am.

Mangaluru City Corporation Finance Standing Committee chairman Radhakrishna will preside over the inaugural ceremony. MRPL chief manager (CSR), Veena T Shetty, corporator Gunashekhar Shetty and DK District Congress secretary Y Raghavendra Rao will be the chief guests.

The valedictory programme will be held on the same day at 6.30 pm. Mayor Bhaskar K Moily will preside over the programme. former legislator B A Mohiyuddin Bava will be the chief guest, said Sureshchandra Shetty.

The participants will be weighed at the Shrinivas Mallya indoor stadium near Mangala Stadium at 11 am on January 20, he added.

Association president Prakash V Karkera was present at the press meet.
