The undertrial prisoner Raghavendra Kanchan (38), a Zilla Panchayat member from BJP, who was arrested in Kota double murder case in February this year, has been undergoing treatment at District Hospital in Ajjarakad.

Kanchan’s treatment in the hospital has come to light, 12 days after he was admitted to hospital on March 7.

Police had extended protection to the special ward where Kanchan is undergoing
treatment for hypertensive heart disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is a common disorder that affects the large intestine, sources in the District Hospital told DH.

Kanchan of Barikere, near Kota, was removed from the party after his name figured among the list of accused men involved in the double murder.

Udupi District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) had arrested him in Kota.

Rivalry between Raghavendra Kanchan and the victim Yathish had ended in the murder of Yathish (27) and his friend Bharath (28) in January this year.

Investigations by police had revealed that Raghavendra was in constant contact with the murderer Harish Reddy.

Police had arrested 17 persons in connection with the double murder case in Kota and all of them had been remanded in judicial custody by the court.

Kanchan was admitted to the hospital after he had complained of abdomen pain, sources in district jail said.
