Moily aide gets Council poll ticket from Kolar

Last Updated 08 December 2015, 19:51 IST
The Congress has finally decided to field Anil Kumar as its candidate for elections to the Legislative Council from Kolar local body constituency.

Anil Kumar is the follower of Veerappa Moily. The party made the announcement late in the evening. The selection had become a Herculean task with Moily demanding ticket for his follower, Anil Kumar, while K H Muniyappa was seeking ticket for his supporter, N Ramesh. Both had stuck to their stand.

Efforts by Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara earlier in the day to select a consensus candidate went in vain.

Though they held a meeting with the elected representatives from twin districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapur and elicited their opinion, they failed to finalise the candidate.

Moily and Muniyappa, however, did not attend the meeting held at the Pradesh Congress Committee main office.

Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara, according to the sources, issued a stern warning to the supporters of both the factions against indulging in anti-party activities.

Hundreds of supporters of both the ticket aspirants had gathered in front of the KPCC office to mount pressure on the party leaders. Supporters of Ramesh tried to besiege Siddaramaiah at a star hotel where he had gone to attend a programme. Another group of Congress workers demanded that the party give ticket to R L Jalappa’s son-in-law G H Nagaraja.

JD(S) picks Appaji Gowda
JD(S), which was in a bind over finalising a candidate for Mandya district, late on Tuesday decided to field party worker Appaji Gowda.

It decided refuse ticket to its sitting MLC B Ramakrishna, who was being strongly backed by Nagamangala MLA N Cheluvarayaswamy. Gowda is learnt to be MP C S Puttaraju's candidate.

State party president H D Kumaraswamy said that after much deliberation the party had succeeded in coaxing Cheluvarayaswamy.

It is learnt that Ramakrishna was pacified by the party leaders who are believed to have promised to get him a party ticket in the next Assembly elections.
