JD(S) candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who was supposed to file his first set of nomination papers for the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday, said to be an auspicious day by an astrologer, postponed the plan in the last moment. Now, he would file the papers on March 25.

The JD(S) leaders had announced that Nikhil would file the papers, accompanied by his family members on Thursday, as directed by party supremo H D Deve Gowda. As there was talk that the two-day nomination filing procedure would split the crowd and create confusion among the people, it has been decided to file the papers on March 25 (Monday).

Moreover, after the show of strength by Sumalatha on Wednesday, it has become inevitable for the JD(S) to gather more people than Wednesday’s crowd. Hence, the JD(S) leaders decided on March 25, according to sources.

Speaking during a campaign meeting in villages of Basaralu hobli in Mandya taluk, Nikhil Kumaraswamy said, “Mandya district would witness a historic moment on March 25. Please wait for the day, which will be a show of strength by the party".

In Maddur, Transport Minister D C Thammanna said the people who attended Sumalatha’s convention were from other places and districts like Mysuru, Channapatna and Ramanagara.

“We have held a discussion with Congress leaders who were present at Sumalatha’s convention. We would take everyone with us”, he added.
