Petrol and diesel will cost Rs 1.14 and Rs 1.12 more per litre respectively from Saturday with the state government issuing an official notification to give effect to the budget proposals made by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The new price of petrol in Bengaluru will be Rs 79.41 per litre and that of diesel Rs 70.78 per litre.

Kumaraswamy, who holds the Finance portfolio, had increased the sales tax on petrol and diesel by two percentage points in his budget proposals on July 5.

Kumaraswamy had also increased taxation on consumption of electricity from the existing 6% to 9%. However, electricity supply companies such as Bescom stated that they are yet to receive a government order in this regard.

Additional Excise Duty (AED) on liquor has been increased by 4% across the board. However, the excise department is yet to issue an order to bring the hike into effect.
