Rains fill waterbodies, hit road connectivity in NK dists

Copious rains in several parts of north Karnataka filled most of the water bodies. Overflowing tanks and ponds have affected vehicular movement at many places.

Bennehalla and Tupparihalli in Navalgund taluk of Dharwad district have been overflowing following heavy rain for the past two days. Water has gushed into nearby field damaging crops.

However, the bountiful showers have come as a relief for farmers. Neelamma tank, considered the major source of water for the town, is also full to the brim. This region of Dharwad district has received 142.04 mm of rain against the expected 71.01 mm.

In Gadag district, the road connectivity between Nargund and Ron has been snapped as Bennehalla has been overflowing on the road near Yavagal.

The movement of vehicles on this stretch has come to a halt since Saturday night, putting passengers in trouble. Passengers bound for Ron have to take a detour via Navalgund and Belavanki, paying thrice the usual fare. A bridge collapsed on Savadatti Road affecting movement of vehicles. There were reports of rain in Gadag also.

Basavanabagewadi in Vijayapura district received good rains on Sunday. Vehicles were stranded on Managuli-Bijjala state highway due to poor visibility.

Parts of the Belagavi district also received mild rains. Ponds and tanks in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district filled to the brim following heavy downpour on Sunday evening.

Tunga reservoir in Gajanur of Shivamogga district is full to the brim and water is likely to be released from it any time.

The dam had 587.85 feet of water against the maximum of 588.24 feet. Roads were flooded due to rain in Mandagadde and other villages of Thirthahalli taluk.

Kadur and Birur in Chikkamagaluru district received heavy rains.

It rained heavily in Tiptur, Turuvekere, Gubbi and Madhugiri taluks in Tumakuru district on Sunday.

While Tiptur received rains for more than one and half hours, it rained for over two hours in Turuvekere.
