Bangalore University acting Vice-Chancellor N Rangaswamy, whose tenure as Dean of Faculty of Arts ended on December 21, will, however continue in the post of VC.

According to Karnataka State Universities (KSU) Act, when the vice-chancellor’s post is vacant, until the appointment of next VC, the senior most dean will be appointed as acting VC.

As per this provision, Prof Rangaswamy was appointed as acting VC after former VC N Prabhu Dev resigned from his post. Rangaswamy’s deanship ended on December 21 and the next senior dean is Prof Mohan Kumar. However, an order dated December 21, from the Governor’s office, Rangaswamy will continue as acting VC.

The Governor, who is also chancellor of the varsity said: “I, H R Bharadwaj, Governor of Karnataka and Chancellor of universities in Karnataka, hereby direct that N Rangaswamy, acting vice chancellor, Bangalore University shall continue to act as vice chancellor, Bangalore University, until further orders.” As per KSU Act, the post should have been taken over by the next senior dean as Rangaswamy’s term has come to an end.
