The Excise Department officials conducted raids at different places of Uttara Kannada district, arrested two persons and seized illegal liquor worth Rs 16.24 lakh on Thursday.
The officials conducted raids at Karwar, Ankola and Honnavar. They seized 8,822 litres of liquor, 49.5 litres of Goa liquor (Feni), 95 litres of Indian made liquor, a 10-wheel lorry and a two-wheeler. The suspects arrested have been identified as Anandu Banavalikar and Subhash Chandra.
Meanwhile, 102 bottles of Goa liquor stacked in five bags have been seized at Karwar Railway Station. The liquor was found deserted and was being transported in Madgaon-Mangalore train. The liquor is said to be worth Rs 25,000. It has been handed over to the Excise Department.
