OpenAI's gen AI-powered SearchGPT now available to all users

Continuing the series of pre-Christmas annoucements, OpenAI has officially launched the company's much awaited generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI)-powered SearchGPT worldwide.

SearchGPT promises to deliver relevant information customised to each user.

On the ChatGPT app, the interaction will be similar to how the users converse naturally with humans chatting on the messenger platform. It will get the right information and, users can continue with follow-up questions to get their queries answered.

Earlier in the year when SearchGPT preview was launched, the company tried to allay the fears of news publishers and content creators that new search engine will not affect their revenue stream from user views.

But, so far, only few website URLs, particularly those of western media publications get showcased in the search results. The answers come in the form of paragraphs and only at the end of results, the website pages get listed.

SearchGPT is available on both the web (Chatgpt.com) and ChatGPT apps for iOS, Macs, Windows and Android.

However, Enterprise and Edu users will get access in the next few weeks. We’ll roll out to all Free users over the coming months.

With the launch of SearchGPT, OpenAI is expected to offer a significant challenge to Google's search platform, which has more than 90 per cent market share.
