In a bid to reduce traffic congestion, the police in Madikeri have started installing tubular cones.

The tubular cones have already been installed on G T Road, Mungerira Muthanna Road and in front of the private bus stand.

The tubular cones have been laid to ensure that the vehicles follow rules and to help in easing traffic congestion. The process of placing the barricades and tubular cones has been initiated in Madikeri from the past one week.

“There is an increase in the number of vehicles on G T Road, Mungerira Muthanna Road, and in front of the private bus stand especially when the children from schools and colleges return home in the evening after school hours. The density of vehicles is also high during shandy market day (Friday). The people are tired of traffic congestion. The use of tubular cones has divided the road, which is beneficial,” said fruit vendor Roopesh.

To check the speed and rash driving near General Thimayya Circle, barricades will be installed. Zebra crossing will be marked on Mungerira Muthanna Circle.

The increasing traffic congestion has been posing an inconvenience to the vehicle users in Madikeri town. The installation of tubular cones will ease the traffic movement, said a resident.

The haphazard parking of vehicles on College Road, Kohinooru Road, Industrial layout and Mahadevapete Road has aggravated the problem of traffic congestion, said residents.
