Last Updated 15 December 2018, 14:12 IST

Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi said that all those DAR police personnel, who have served more than 10 years, will get a hike in their salary.

Speaking at an eye and organ donation awareness programme organised as a part of the decennial celebrations of DAR police unit of 2008 batch, he said the DAR police personnel have become a model by taking up social activities.

He said human organs cannot be created using the advanced technology. There is a need to create awareness on organ donation among people, he said.

Prof Vinod Nayak of KMC Hospital, Manipal, said "Organ donation helps in saving the lives of the people. The organs like eye, heart, kidney, intestine of brain-dead persons can be donated. One needs to take consent of the family members of the brain-dead person to retrieve the organs. "

He said the present lifestyle system has an impact on the health of an individual. India is the capital of diabetic patients and it is a matter of concern. One needs to give priority to health, he added.

He said there is a demand for 65 lakh to 70 lakh organs in the country. There is lack of knowledge on organ donation among the people, he noted.

Financial assistance was given to special school and old age homes on the occasion.
