'Gold Karak Tea/Coffee' served for Rs 1.14 lakh by Dubai-based Indian cafe takes internet for a joyride

A popular beverage in India, tea or 'chai' costs merely Rs 10, 20 or around 500 if you enjoy sipping it a five-star hotel. But a cafe in Dubai is offering the same chai for Rs 1 lakh.

A cafe based in Dubai, owned by an Indian-origin entrepreneur Suchta Sharma, is offering 'Gold Karak Chai' at a jaw dropping price of Rs 1.14 lakh (UAE Dirham 5000).

The Boho Cafe and Restaurant, located at DIFC’s Emirates Financial Towers, serves the Gold Karak Tea for Rs 3,448 (approx) with a 24-carat edible gold leaf.

The cafe's elite menu does not stop right here. For those seeking a royal experience, the cafe also serves the Gold Souvenir Karak Tea and Coffee at Rs 1.14 lakh each (UAE Dirham 5000).

The Gold Karak Tea or Coffee are served with a gold-dusted croissant and a silver cup and saucer which the customers are allowed to carry home as a keepsake.

Other than beverages, the cafe also offers other options to experience - gold water at Rs 6,897 (UAE Dirham 300), gold burgers at Rs 6,897 (UAE Dirham) and gold ice-cream at Rs 9,197 (UAE Dirham 400) - all served with a 24 carat edible gold flakes.

A video shared by a food vlogger shows the lavish tea experience at the cafe.

The video wherein the tea was served in silver cutlery topped with gold dust, an edible gold leaf along with a gold dusted croissant, was posted with a caption which read, "This spot in Dubai serves AED 5000 Gold Karak! Experience luxury in a cup with the world’s most extravagant karak, served in pure silver and topped with 24-karat gold. Each sip comes with a side of gold-dusted croissant—and the silverware is yours to keep!

According to a report by Khaleej Times, claiming that their focus on Indian cuisine is deliberate, the owner Sucheta said, "Out of the roughly 11,500 professionals in DIFC, around 6,500 are Indian, so we’re catering to their tastes. There’s nothing this affordable in the vicinity, and we wanted to fill that gap. Our international menu remains popular with Russian clients, and we’re keeping that unchanged."

Explaining to the publication she added, "This is not about creating a spectacle. We genuinely want to offer something special — both in terms of price and experience. The gold-infused items are for those who want to treat themselves, but at the same time, we’re offering great food at affordable prices for everyone else."

The experience has caught the attention of netizens which has sparked a curiosity as well as a controversy across social media.
