Last Updated 20 June 2018, 19:51 IST

Police opened fire on two rowdies who attacked them in a bid to escape when they went to arrest them near Laggere in Rajagopalanagar on Tuesday.

Rafeeq (28), a history-sheeter in Basaveshwaranagar, and Sudhakar (30), a rowdy from Srirampuram, sustained bullet injuries in the leg. Two constables Srinivasa and Hanumantharaju sustained minor injuries, but are out of danger. “The rowdies, involved in nearly 20 cases, had instilled fear in residents by smashing windowpanes and damaging parked vehicles. We analysed the CCTV footage, identified the accused and formed a team to nab them on Tuesday near Karim Saab Layout,” said a senior police officer. The Mahalakshmi Layout police inspector Lohith opened fire at the tyres and deflated them. The duo then got out and tried to attack the police with choppers, following which Lohith fired in the air and asked them to surrender. When they tried to escape, he shot them in the leg.
