BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad suspended two officials in the RR Nagar zone after MLA Munirathna alleged that garbage contractors use cars and passenger autos to collect waste.

Prasad also forwarded a proposal to the state government to suspend the assistant executive engineer, executive engineer, superintendent engineer and joint commissioner of the RR Nagar zone.

Speaking in the Council meeting, RR Nagar MLA Munirathna said: “Garbage contractors are using ambassador cars, passenger auto-rickshaws and goods rickshaws to collect garbage in the JP Park ward.”

In this ward, 21 auto tippers are paid for clearing garbage, but Munirathna said he found only 13 tippers during a spot check. “Two were auto tippers, while the others are goods auto. We’ve recorded this in CCTV camera,” he added.

Munirathna said he found documents of contract payment by the BBMP from April 1, 2016, to the present. He found discrepancies in the details of tipper auto furnished by contractors and the actual vehicles used.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy urged the BBMP commissioner to suspend the officials linked to this mess.

Prasad ordered a report from the officials and suspended Junior health inspector and assistant engineer of the JP Park ward working in 2016 under dereliction of duty.
