It is no secret that over the years, several storytellers have tried to capture the essence of womanhood. On International Women's Day, here is a look at seven popular Bollywood films that highlight 'Her' virtues, making for perfect Women's Day features.

Fashion (2008)

The Madhur Bhandarkar-directed movie featuring Priyanka Chopra in the lead revolved around the dark side of the fashion industry. The film received rave reviews for highlighting the insecurities of the members of the fashion industry in a sensitive manner. The Desi Girl played the role of the strong-willed Meghna and hit the right notes with her mature performance. The star did justice to the scenes depicting the character's downfall.

English Vinglish (2012)

English Vinglish marked Sridevi's comeback after a hiatus and revolved around her character's attempts at mastering English. The film struck a cord with the audience, especially women, as it showed a powerhouse female protagonist, making the film the best Women's Day watch. This Gauri Shinde film emerged as a big hit at the box office. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan's cameo was a major highlight of the movie.

Queen (2014)

Widely regarded as the film that established Kangana Ranaut as a bankable star, Queen was a lively drama and revolved around the journey of a naive young woman, Rani. The audience particularly enjoyed how Rani attained self-confidence through the film. It received rave reviews for its relatable plot and effective execution. The Vikas Bahl-directed movie emerged as a big hit at the box office and soon attained cult status.

Nil Battey Sannata (2015)

Nil Battey Sannata featured a sincere performance from Swara Bhasker and highlighted that everyone has the right to fulfil his or her dreams irrespective of their circumstances. The critically-acclaimed movie was remade in Tamil and Malayalam as Amma Kanakku and Udaharanam Sujatha.

Pink (2016)

Pink was a hard-hitting drama that addressed the importance of consent, highlighting that 'no means no'. Actor Taapsee Pannu played the role of an assault survivor in the film and hit the right notes with her acting. The cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Piyush Mishra, Kriti Kharbanda and Andrea Tariang. Pink was remade in Tamil as Nerkonda Paarvai with Shraddha Srinath and Ajith Kumar in the lead. Vakeel Saab, the Telugu version of the film, is set to hit the screens next month.

Tumhari Sulu (2017)

The film had a layered narrative that revolved around the simple journey and unfulfilled dreams of a housewife, played by Vidya Balan. The ace actor did justice to the challenging character and consolidated her standing in the industry. Tumhari Sulu was later remade in Tamil as Kaatrin Mozhi with Jyothika in the lead.

Chhapaak (2020)

The hard-hitting drama featuring Deepika Padukone in the role of an acid attack survivor received rave reviews for its sensitive and mature screenplay. DP did justice to the challenging role with her intense performance. The film, however, did not do too well at the box office as it was released alongside Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji.
