Rain havoc in south Andhra Pradesh: At least 12 feared dead

Puducherry CM writes to Centre for interim rain relief
Chief Minister ofPuducherryN Rangasamy on Friday said he has written a letter to the Centre seeking interim relief to meet the situation arising out of the rains here. He told this to reporters during his visit to rain-hit villages in the Union Territory. He was accompanied by Territorial Assembly Speaker R Selvam and MLAs. Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also visited Pillaichavady, Chinna Kalapet and Periya Kalapet and saw for herself the impact of sea erosion, damage to houses and sufferings of the fishermen due to the heavy rains. BJP Legisl\ator P M L Kalyanasundaram, District Collector Purva Garg, Deputy Collector M Kandasamy and police officials accompanied the Lieutenant Governor. Members of the fishermen community narrated their woes to the Lieutenant Governor in the wake of incessant rains. (PTI)

Light intensity rain would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of Iglas, Barsana, Raya, Hathras, Mathura, Sadabad, Tundla, Agra, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Jajau (Uttra Pradesh) Viratnagar, Nagar, Deeg, Laxmangarh, Rajgarh, Nadbai, Bharatpur, Mahawa, Mahandipur Balaji, Bayana (Rajasthan) during next two hours, according to IMD.

The Depression over north Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood moved west-northwestwards and weakened into a well marked low pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining Karnataka and Rayalaseema at 1130 hrs IST of today, the 19th November 2021. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and weaken further gradually during next 24 hours.

Heavy rains batter Tirupati, hit air traffic
Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Tirupati on Thursday, inundating low-lying areas, disrupting vehicular and air traffic and plunging the temple town into darkness.
The downpour caused severe hardships to pilgrims as the landslides forced the authorities to close roads leading to Sri Venkateswara temple atop Tirumala.
There was no electricity supply in the town since 3 p.m. after rain water entered a sub-station.
Roads in several key areas of the town turned into cesspools due to incessant rains under the impact of northeast monsoon, which is active in Chittoor and Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. (IANS)
Assess rain situation, decide on holiday for schools: Karnataka govt to DCs
The Karnataka government has asked the authorities of all districts to declare holiday for schools on Friday, after assessing the situation arising out of rains in the state. In a letter to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts, the Commissioner of Public Instructions Department Vishal R asked them to announce holiday to schools after assessing the rain situation in their respective districts.

IMD warns of flash floods
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued flash flood warnings for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pudducherry. Its Land Surface Model have shows as high as 95-100 per cent saturation in few watersheds of southern parts of Rayalaseema, southern parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam adjoining to North Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu, Pudducheery &; Karaikal subdivisions of IMD and up to 80-85 per cent saturation in few watersheds of Rayalaseema and Kerala IMD subdivision.
Tamil Nadu: IMD warns of flash floods; advisory issued on dam water release
In view of the heavy rainfall in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Pudducherry, and the reservoirs in the region getting heavy inflows, the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Thursday issued an advisory for the dam operators to keep strict vigil and release water carefully.
