Coronavirus news highlights: Delhi reports 6,953 fresh Covid-19 cases, 79 deaths India's coronavirus tally crossed 84.6 lakh while the death toll stood at 1.25 lakh with 577 fatalities in 24 hours. Over 78 lakh people have recovered from the disease in India so far with a recovery rate of 92.41 per cent — the highest in the world. India has the world's second-highest caseload behind the United States but has seen a steady dip in cases since September, in spite of the start of the Hindu festival season. Meanwhile, a second coronavirus wave ploughs on relentlessly through Europe, which reported more than 12 million cases and 300,000 deaths as swathes of Italy return to lockdown and the British city of Liverpool trials city-wide testing.

Odisha's Covid-19 tally crossed the three lakh-mark on Saturday as 1,372 more people tested positive for the infection, while 17 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,410, a health department official said. The fresh infections reported from all the 30 districts have taken the state's caseload to 3,00,140, he said. (PTI)

Of the 1,372 new cases, 796 were detected in quarantine centres, and the rest found during contact tracing.

The coronavirus situation in Maharashtra, where the infection count has crossed the 17 lakh-mark so far, appears to be improving gradually as the last one lakh cases were added over a period of 16 days as compared to the earlier average period of less than 10 days.

At least 81 more people, including five security personnel and six health workers, tested positive for Covid-19 in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, pushing the tally in the state to 15,325, an official said.

Ukraine registered a record 10,746 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the health minister said on Saturday, up from a high of 9,850 reported on November 5.

Maksym Stepanov said the new cases had taken the total number of confirmed infections to 450,934, with 8,312 deaths. He said 187 new deaths had been registered in the past 24 hours.
