Rajya Sabha passes bill providing relief to taxpayers on compliance front amid Covid-19

The Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill, 2020, which seeks to replace an ordinance and make few other changes in direct and indirect tax laws, was returned by a voice vote in Rajya Sabha. Parliament on Tuesday passed legislation to declare the five new IIITs in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala and Raichur as institutes of national importance, enabling them to award degrees.

The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was introduced in Rajya Sabha by Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Monday. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha in March.

As per National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, information of 420 cases of child sexual abuse has been received by NCPCR from 1st March 2020 till 31st August 2020: Union Minister of Women & Child Development Smriti Irani in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

"As reported by Childline India Foundation (CIF), 3,941 calls have been received by CIF regarding child sexual cases from 1st March 2020 to 15th September 2020," she added.

The IIIT Billseeks to declare five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) set up under the Public-Private Partnership mode in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala, and Raichur as institutions of national importance.
