The move benefits over 40 lakh people living under the limits of the East Corporation, said officials.<br /><br />Now, people can go to the municipal corporation’s website and create their own account as the documents can only be obtained through a valid account, said an official.<br /><br />The East Delhi Municipal Corporation will upload the birth and death data collected by the hospitals under its limits on its website, and people can access the information using their accounts, he added.<br /><br />People can also make corrections on the documents by uploading the required identity proof like class 10 certificate or aadhar card, he said.<br /><br />On Tuesday, Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Maheish Girri laid open the facility for the public to obtain birth and death certificates online at the corporation's headquarter in Patparganj.<br /><br />Even mayors from the US – Linda Holmes, Freddie Odom and Matthew Avitabile – were present on the occasion along with Bollywood actor Arjan Bajwa. "This step will help in minimising the scope of corruption and create transparency in the system," said Girri.<br />"This initiative is a positive step toward e-governance and Digital India," he added.East Delhi Mayor Satya Sharma said that despite facing financial crunch, the civic agency is striving for providing better facilities to the public.<br /><br />Leader of Opposition Varyam Kaur said that such documents are required every now and then like school admissions or applying for jobs. “The corporation should be appreciated for easing the process of issuance of birth and death certificates.”</p>
